Private, Company L, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. He was killed, along with General George A. Custer and most of his unit, at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

Records show that he had a second enlistment on September 4, 1875, at age 26, in St. Louis, Missouri. He had hazel eyes, brown hair, a dark complexion and was 5 feet, 8 inches tall. His unit was assigned to the Custer Column, and he was killed during the afternoon of the first day of the three day battle. After the battle, the bodies of the dead soldiers were buried where they fell; a year later, the bodies were dug up and reburied in the Mass Grave at the top of Last Stand Hill.
