Parents: Bernard and Mary Pflieger.

Marie was born and raised on the family farm near Garrison, North Dakota, to Bernard and Mary Pflieger. She was the ninth of ten children in the family.

Marie married David G. Hummel on June 15, 1943, in Garrison, North Dakota. There they began their family of three children. She was a fabulous homemaker and also carved a career for herself when it was rare for women to work outside the home. She was one of the first Avon ladies in North Dakota and was a top sales leader for that company. She then worked for Empire Crafts Corporation, also a direct sales organization selling fine china, crystal, and silver dinnerware.

In 1956, the family moved to Roseburg where she continued her role as wife and mother as well as working in her direct sales business eventually becoming involved in real estate and managing Dave's and her investments. They retired in 1978 and enjoyed time with their grandchildren and traveling in their motor home.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for almost sixty years and volunteered many hours as a member of the Altar Society, as a Catechism instructor, and as a helping hand whenever needed.

Marie Rose Hummel passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, two days before her eighty-ninth birthday.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and four sisters; and her beloved husband, Dave who died in 1998.

She is survived by her daughter, LaReece (Bill) Haynes; sons: Neil (Cathy) and Craig (Valoree) Hummel; and her dearly loved five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Her children would like to especially thank Mercy Hospice for the excellent care their mother received during her last days. For those who wish, in memory of Marie, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice.

A private inurnment service will be held at St. Joseph's cemetery in Roseburg.
