She was born July 27, 1948 in Sweetwater, Texas to Gerald and Anna Thompson. She attended Dublin schools and graduated from Big Spring High School in June, 1966. In 1968, she married James Butler, who was killed in the Vietnam War. In 1978, she married Gary Evans of Oak Harbor, Wash., whom she met while attending Western Washington University. She later finished her college career by completing a bachelor's degree in psychology at Trinity Western University during her treatments for cancer.
She is survived by her siblings, Sandra Smith, Jerry Thompson, Charles Thompson, Don Thompson and Rhonda Thompson. She is also survived by her husband of 40 years; her four children, Eli, Joshua, Joyanna, and Jonathan; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Hanson Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas on May 3, 2014 at 1 p.m.
