David Kennedy McConkey was born in Hopeville, Ohio April 4, 1846 and died at his home south of Bedford March 14, 1910. Mr. McConkey was the eldest of thirteen children. In 1872 he moved from his home in Ohio to Adams county Iowa, and living there until 1878 when he moved to Taylor County Iowa. That same year he was married to Emiline Jane Booher and to this union were born David Arthur, Alfred Bryant, and Francis Valentine. The deceased was a kind and loving father and a good neighbor who will be missed by all. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all. Funeral services were held Wednesday and interment was in Forest Grove.

David K McConkey of Jackson Township died at his home on Monday of pulmonary tuberculosis and funeral services was held in the Forest Grove Church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment having been in Forest Grove Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rec. D. McMasters of the 1st Baptist Church of Bedford. Mr. McConkey was born in Ohio April 4, 1846. He leaves three sons and several brothers and sisters.

David married Emily Jane Booher; daughter of William John Booher and Lucinda Asher Booher. They were married Sept. 5, 1878 in Taylor, Iowa. Emily died on March 14, 1894. The young mother was 36 years old leaving David with their children to raise. David's grave is unmarked, a funeral home index card shows David was married and buried in Forest Grove Cemetery. He most likely is buried by Emily.

The 1850 Census for Green Township, Harrison , Ohio shows David with his parents. His father David age 29 working as a shoemaker. His mother Margaret 23 with David age 4, Saml, 16 listed as a laborer, Thomas 11, William K. 2 and James, A. a newborn.
The 1860 Census for Hopedale, Harrison, Ohio shows David 13, with his father age 49, mother age 34 children; William. 11, James 9, Benjamin 7, Ambrose 6, Wesley 4, Mary 1. ( Samuel and Thomas are not listed.)
1870 Census for Towanda, McLean, Illinois shows his father as a farmer. The family had not only left Ohio they added children Margaret E. age 9, Ela May age 4 and Thomas age 2 months. David K 24 is listed as a farmer, William C 22 a farm hand, James 20 on farm, Benjamin 18 on farm, Ambrose 16 on farm, Samuel W. 14 on farm.
The 1880 census shows David age 34 at home in Jackson, Taylor, Iowa with his wife Emily J 22 and baby son David W. K. six months.
1900 Census Jackson, Taylor, Iowa shows David 54 a widower with his children David 20, Alfred B. 14, Francis B. 10.
Marriage records in Pottawattamie, Iowa show David married Genetta Wakefield Ridlen on Oct. 15, 1902. Notice the funeral home card states David as married. The Obituary does not mention he had remarried after Emily's death.
