Jorgen Andersen emigrated from Denmark in 1866 during the American Civil War. At some time later the spelling of his last name was changed to "Anderson". It is believed that in 1867 he returned to Denmark to marry Marie. She joined him in the United States in 1868. They had six children.

Jorgen's date of death is unknown but is said to be between 1915 and 1918 according to family lore. He also believed to be buried in the Eastside Cemetery near his wife. Notation on her head stone confirms that she was the wife of J. P. Anderson.
