Clay was the son of Edward Lee Snider and Goldie Eileen Anderson, grandson of Maurice Locke Snider and Eleanor Borden Burwell. He attended Carnegie Mellon University (theater) and New York Univesity Tisch School of the Arts (theater) and worked in the theater, NYC. He was greatly loved by his family and friends.

A portion of his ashes are interred in the niche of his grand-aunt, Minnie Margaret Snider Protzman. His name is not on the plaque. Other portions of Clay's ashes were scattered in Rocky Mountain National Park, CO, Central Park, NYC, San Francisco, CA, Chicago, IL and other places his friends wished to remember him.
