Herbert C. Shealy, 93, of Wernersville, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 20th, at Tremont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Tremont, Schuylkill County. The widower of Elmira M. (Smith) Shealy, who died on January 25, 2003, Herbert was born in Leesville, SC, on September 14, 1920, a son of the late Lilla Mae (Koon) and Marion Victor Shealy.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Sgt. in WW II. He was a turret gunner on B-17s in the European Theatre, crash landing 3 times and receiving 2 Purple Hearts. He also spent 409 days in the hospital recovering from his wounds, the last one being at Valley Forge Army Hospital. After the war, he worked as an upholsterer at Dell Upholstery, Reading, PA, retiring in 1982. He later operated his own antiques business at Shupps Grove in Adamstown.

Herbert is survived by a daughter, Nancy M. (Shealy) Waldron, of Wernersville, PA, and a son, Kenneth B. Shealy Sr. , husband of Betty (Adler) Shealy, of Muhlenberg Twp., PA. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Kenneth B. Shealy Jr., husband of Lori (Stump) Shealy, Shillington; Terrilyn Singer, Hamburg; Amy R. Waldron-Zibulsky, wife of Dan Zibulsky, Brooklyn, NY; and Kelly D., wife of Zachary Hanson, of Wilmington, DE. And also by 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Religious Service will be held at Feeney Funeral Home, Reading, PA, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 24th. Friends and relatives are invited to call Thursday 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Entombment follows in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Twp., PA. Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association , 100 N. 17th St., 2nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Arrangements entrusted to the John P. Feeney Funeral Home, in Reading's Centre Park Historic District, 625 N. 4th St. at Centre Ave. (Route 61) Reading, PA 19601.
