Rev. Leroy McCormick, a resident of the Oaks Nursing Home in Carrollton, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010. He was 78.

Rev. McCormick was born on April 7, 1932, in Randolph County, Ala. to the late Rev. Lewis and Estelle Benefield McCormick. He was employed by Tidwell Construction and was an evangelist who preached at many churches in the area. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gilmore McCormick; his children, Steve McCormick and Sheila McCormick; and two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ronald Powell of Carrollton, Anita Dewberry and Sherrie and Mark Sims, all of Bowdon; his sisters, Velma Barber, Mary Lois Smith, and Pauline McCormick; his granddaughters and their spouses, Leighanne and Chris Hancock and Amanda and Lucas Budde; and his great-grandsons, Austin Lee Border, Ricky Wayne Hancock, and Tyler Bradon Hancock.

Funeral services for Rev. McCormick will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home. Rev. Ronny Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in the Ephesus Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 30, from 5 to 8 p.m.
