Mr. John Larry "Johnny" Huckaby, age 69, of Silver Creek, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at a local hospital.
Mr. Huckaby was born in Floyd County on January 22, 1945, son of the late Percy Jack and Lucille Pledger Huckaby. He was also preceded in death by a son, John David Huckaby and by 7 siblings. Mr. Huckaby was a veteran of the United States Navy. Prior to his becoming ill, he was a Barber at Webb's Barber Shop in Lindale for over 9 years. He loved gospel music and sang in a Gospel Quartet for several years with Larry Padgett, and the late James Smith, Johnny Kelley, and Jimmy Mauldin. He was a founding member of Doyle Road Baptist Church. Mr. Huckaby was a Past Master and member of the Lindale Lodge #455 F. & A. M. He was an avid Georgia Football and Atlanta Braves fan.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Smith, to whom he was married on February 8, 1964; a daughter, Ms. Angela Kay Huckaby, Rome; a son, Brian Huckaby, and his wife, B. J., Rome; 4 granddaughters, Wendi, Alea, Kinsley, and Kaylee Huckaby; a sister, Mrs. Linda Atkins, and her husband, Wayne, Cedartown; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 11am at Doyle Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the Rev. Scotty Rampley officiating.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective residences.
Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Doyle Road Baptist Church on Thursday at 10:30am and include: Rev. James Minter, Rev. Kirby Moore, Rev. Scotty Rampley, Scott Young, Dwayne Cowan, and Tommy Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John L. Huckaby Memorial Fund at any Northwest Georgia Credit Union here in Rome.
