Private, Company E, 7th US Cavalry. He was the troop Trumpeter. He was killed, along with General George A. Custer and most of his unit, at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

He enlisted on March 18, 1875, at age 20, in Boston. He gave his previous occupation as Clerk. He had hazel eyes, dark hair, a fair complexion, and was 5 feet 6 3/8 inches tall. During the battle, his company was assigned to the Custer column, and he was killed the afternoon of the first day of the three day battle. Initially, the dead soldiers were buried where they fell, and a year later, the bodies were dug up and reburied in a Mass Grave, at the top of Last Stand Hill.
