Our wonderful mother, Lolala Turman Epperson, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012. Lolala was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Patrick County, Va., and was married to Samuel Curtis Epperson for 56 years before Sam passed away in 1991. All of Lolala’s adult life was lived in Derita, where all her time was spent raising her children, while Sam worked many years as a U.S. Government contractor in numerous foreign lands. Family and friends remember fondly Lolala’s incredible traditional Southern Appalachian country meals (except maybe the beef tongue and hog brains), which were the highlight of each day and holiday season. Most of the vegetables came from Lolala’s garden, either fresh or canned. Lolala’s youngest child and son, Timothy S. Epperson passed away in 2007.

Those left here to cherish memories of Lolala are her best friend and daughter, Shirley E. Nix, of Charlotte, daughters, Sylvia E. Kerley, of Hopewell, Va. and Sandra E. Kinlaw (Gerald), of Summerfield; and son, Sandy Epperson (Beverly), of Sherrills Ford. Lolala also leaves grandchildren, Natalea Honeycutt, Jerry Kinlaw, Chris Kinlaw, Timothy Epperson, Andrea Kerley, Amy Nelson and Andrew Epperson. Granddaughter, Suzette Nix, passed away in 1980. Lolala had 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lolala bids a fond farewell to her extended family at Churchill Senior Living in Mooresville and the Jolly Sixties Sunday School Class at Northside Baptist Church. We shall all greatly miss her.

The celebration of a long and fruitful life began with a visitation Friday, Nov. 23, at McEwen Funeral Service, Derita Chapel. Funeral services followed at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment was at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, in Bell Spur Cemetery in Meadows of Dan, Va. In lieu of flowers, please remember Lolala through Statesville Road Baptist Church, 4901 Statesville Rd., Charlotte, NC 28269. NOVEMBER 25, 2012 MOORESVILLE TRIBUNE
