Pastor Scottie Lee Proffitt, age 68 of Red Ash, Virginia, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born November 6, 1945 in Tazewell County, Virginia he was the son of the late Chester and Lillie Byrd Proffitt. He was longtime Pastor of Open Door Ministry Church. He retired in 2011 from Ryerson Metals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Sue Lowe Proffitt;

one sister, Donna Proffitt

and one brother, Pete Proffitt.

He is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Boyd and husband Walter of Richlands, VA;

two sons, Scottie Proffitt, Jr. and wife Juanita of Cedar Bluff, VA and Ricky Lee Proffitt and wife Becky of Belfast, VA;

four grandchildren, Savannah Boyd, Kierra Boyd, Katrina Proffitt and Ryan Proffitt;

one brother, Ronnie Proffitt and wife Ida of Red Ash, VA;

five sisters, Wanda Younce and husband Bill of Tazewell, VA, Jannie Simmons and husband Bill of Red Ash, VA, Kathy Hubbard and husband Hubert of Swords Creek, VA, Loretta Ray and husband Steve of Honaker, VA and Linda Alley and husband Jerry of Baptist Valley, VA;

several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Rev. Michael Justice and Rev. Luther Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Anthony Boyd, Jerry Alley, Shawn Ward, Kevin Simmons, Chuck Lyons and Steve Ray.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
