For two years beginning in 1948 he announced for WSGN-AM and WSGN-FM. He called games for the 1948, 1949 and 1950 Birmingham Barons.
Before coming to Birmingham, Hawley was a bombardier instructor and an announcer for WHIS in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was a graduate of New York University, where he earned his degree after graduating from Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, New York.
After leaving for Memphis in 1951, Hawley continued announcing for WMC until he retired in 1993.
He was survived by his wife, Opal Hawley and a son, Ronnie Hawley.
