Alma Ruth Sherrod Austin was the second child born to Louise Williams Turner and Tyrone Y. Sherrod in York, Alabama. She married Cornelius Austin and moved to Victorville in 1947 with her two sons, Robert and John Hill, then moved to San Bernardino in 1952, where she raised her other children: Linda, Cornelius Jr., Darrell, Beverly and Michael Austin. She was a member of the New Life Missionary Baptist Church in San Bernardino and the Eastern Star. She also owned a catering business for a number of years and was the administrator of the Caroline House, a home that provided guidance, love, and care for special needs adults. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cornelius Austin, sons, Cornelius, Jr. and Darrell Austin, brother, Fred Sherrod, and grandchildren, Douglas Hill and Maurice Austin. Three sons, Robert and John Hill of Highland, Michael Austin of San Bernardino, and two daughters, Beverly McCabe of Los Angeles and Linda Austin of San Bernardino survive her. One brother, John Allyn Jimmerson, several grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends, also survive her. Funeral Service Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 2 P.M. at Green Acres Memorial Park and Mortuary.
