Quayle patriarch passes (Wednesday, July 12, 2000)

James "Jim" Quayle, owner of The Wickenburg Sun from 1977 to 1987 and father of former Vice President Dan Quayle, died Friday in a nursing care center in Sun City West.

He was 79.

Mr. Quayle, known for us outgoing personality and conservative views, had been in failing health for several years.

He and his wife Corinne had lived part of each year in Wickenburg since August of 1977, when he bought The Wickenburg Sun, and in recent years they were full-time residents here.

He sold The Sun in January of 1987 to his son Michael, who had worked for the newspaper as its vice president and general manager prior to purchasing it. Michael Quayle sold The Sun to Brehm Communications, Inc. in 1990 and became publisher of the Vincennes (Ind.) Sun-Commercial newspaper.
