Ethel Claire Rattray Sharp, 77, died Thursday in Birmingham. Mrs. Sharp grew up in Gadsden. She was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover. She graduated from Gadsden High School in 1950 and from the University of Montevallo in 1954. She was a longtime resident of Huntsville and was a teacher in the Huntsville school system. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lillian Rattray of Gadsden. Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, David Wheeler Sharp; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Mechelle Meredith Sharp of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Sharp and Bob Roberts of Hoover; granddaughters, Rachel Roberts, Amanda Roberts, Emily Roberts, Meredith Sharp and Suzanne Sharp; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dora Gene and Raymond Hill of Gadsden, and Lillian and Clarence Kirkley, deceased, of Fayette; and numerous other family members who loved her dearly. Visitation with the family will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Gadsden. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Nowlin Chapel of the First Baptist Church immediately following the visitation. Published in The Huntsville Times from 7/4 to 7/5/2009
