Television Director, Producer. He is best known for his behind the scenes contributions to such popular TV programs as "I Dream of Jeannie", "That Girl", "The Courtship of Eddie's Father", "The Brady Bunch" and "Maude". Raised on Long Island, his father was a merchant, Hal began his lengthy association with the entertainment industry as a child performer (age nine) on radio. During World War II, he served with the United States Naval Reserve in the Pacific Theater and following his return home, he attained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan. He launched his TV career as a director with the series "The Magic Cottage" (1949 to 1951) and went on to direct episodes for the series "Death Valley Days", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", Gimme Me a Break" and "Dear John", the later two he also produced. He received two Emmy Award nominations for the series "Maude".
