"Mr. Pirington is a Republican in politics and has held much public office. His connection with his party has been lifelong for he voted for John C. Fremont for president back in 1956, when the party came into being. Mr. Pirington was overseer of the poor in Calais for 15 years, and a member of the board of health for the same length of time, served on the city council and the board of aldermen, and was mayor of Calais in 1877. He is independent in his religious views, although both his wife and mother have been members of the Methodist Church. Mr. Pirington is a member of the Board of Trade, a director if the Calais Savings Bank, and has always contributed to the Calais Public Library. He belongs to Saint Croix Lodge No. 46, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons"

Purrington, 69, born January 1831 in N.H., parents born N.H., was living on North Street in Calais, Maine, with Mary E., 64, born April, 1836 in Canada, father born Canada, mother born Maine; adopted daughter Mary A., 18, born September 1882 in Mass., parents born Mass; and cousin Catherine A., 41, born September 1859 in Canada, father born Maine, mother born Canada.
The couple had been married for 40 years, and Mary had borne no live children.
Mary had moved to the U.S. in 1860.

In the 1880 U.S. Census, hardware and iron dealer Prescott M. Pirington, 49, born N.H., father born N.H., mother born Mass., was living in Calais, Maine, with Mary E., 44, born Canada, parents born Maine; and single sister-in-law Susan S. Hanson, 35, born Maine, parents born Maine.

in the 1860 U.S. Census, Prescott Purrington, 30, born N.H., was living in Ward 1, Calais, Maine, with Mary E., 24; and Charles P., 8, both born in Maine.

Prescot M. Purington and Mary E. Hansen, both of Calais, made their marriage intentions on November 25, 1853 and Prescott M. Purrington and Mary E. Hanson were married by S.H. Keeler (Calais Vital Records)

"When a child, he moved with his parents to Lowell, Massachusetts, and In 1833, to Kittery, Maine where he attended the public schools. He afterwards moved to Portland where he remained about 15 years, and learned the trade of making doors, blinds and sashes. During three years of this time he was engaged in manufacturing on his own account and, afterwards, pursued the same occupation in Bath, Maine. In 1851 he moved to Calais where he established the same line of business and conducted it successfully for years. After a time, he took a partner and the firm name became Pirington & Strout. Subsequently this firm bought out and continued the business of Chase, Parker and Company, dealers in hardware, which they carried on together with their original work of manufacturing doors, blinds and sashes. In 1902, they sold out to J.P.& II D. Eaton, and Mr. Pirington has lived to retirement since then." (Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine)

Prescott was the son of Prescott Pirington and Eliza Richardson.
