Artis accept Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Stevens Baptist until he moved his membership to Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in the 1970's as an adult. Where he was very active member he became a deacon, drove the church van and helped in many areas of the church.
In 1963 Artis was blessed with a daughter Debra A. Yett .In 1964 he United in Holy Matrimony to Cardell L. Walker for and to this union two children was born, Brenda Walker-Francis, and Lester E. Walker.
Artis worked for The University of Texas for (17 years) and the Austin Independent School District, Pflugerville Independent School District where he retired as a custodial supervisor for Palmer Lane Elementary School He was a devoted and likeable employee and love the children at schools he worked at.
In addition to his family, some of his greatest joy came from helping others, serving with the Austin City-Wide Youth, traveling, barbecuing and telling many of his stories. He was known to some of his friends and relatives as; Art, Artie Earl, Wolf-cookie and Mr. Walker.
Artis was precede in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife of 49 years Cardell Walker, 3 children Debra (Ralph), Brenda (Dodd), Lester (Beverly) a host of (9)grandchildren, (11) great-grandchildren, (2) Aunts Itialy Harris (Austin), Lena Wayne ( Compton California) a host of relatives, friends and family dog baby.
