Joyce (Wheeler) Sironen, 84, of Acton, died Thursday April 17, 2014 in Concord. She was the beloved wife of 62 years of David E. Sironen. Born in Woburn on July 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Alden R. and Beatrice (Baldrey) Wheeler. She grew up in Concord, attended Concord schools and was a 1947 graduate of Concord High School. She later graduated from Kents Hill School in Maine in 1949 and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. A resident of South Acton since 1957, she was employed in several secretarial positions through the years, including at the former Concord Free Press newspaper and later The Beacon, and for over twenty years at Nuclear Metals in Concord, retiring in 1994. She was a lover of horses, especially of her beloved "Rusty", and also flying airplanes, receiving her pilots license in the 1940's. She also enjoyed skiing and golfing. In addition to her husband David, she is survived by her son Alden Wheeler Sironen and his wife Michele of Cary, North Carolina, her daughter Dorinda Joyce Sironen and her partner Scott Waldron of Mesa, Arizona, and her granddaughter Megan Sironen Davis and her husband Jonathan of Apex, North Carolina. She was also the mother of the late Sarah Louise Sironen. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday April 23rd from 5 to 7 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. A graveside service will be held Thursday April 24th at 2 pm at the family burial plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street, (Rte. 62), Concord Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Angell (MSPCA-Angell), 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130, www.mspca.org. Arrangements are under the care of Charles W. Dee and Susan M. Dee, Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
