Rex George Robbins, 84, of Ashland passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 in the Hospice House with his family. Rex was born July 19, 1929 in Bergholz, Ohio, to the late Kenneth and Pauline (nee George) Robbins. Rex proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army as a medic. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Ashland College and went on to the Cleveland School of Embalming. Following his apprenticeship he became an Ohio Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. Rex was a partner in the Heyle-Robbins Funeral Home for a number of years. He then went on to become a representative for the prestigious Marsellus Casket Company in 1968, located in Syracuse, New York and retired after more than 25 years of service in 1993. Rex was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he held numerous positions, past commander of the Harry Higgins Post #88 of the American Legion, Rotary Club of Ashland, City Club, YMBC, American Red Cross, Samaritan Hospital volunteer, Ashland Masonic Lodge, Al Koran Shrine, Ashland County Shrine Club, Ohio Funeral Director's Association, National Funeral Director's Assn., and Ohio Embalmers Assn. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Robbins, of Ashland; one daughter, Jenny (Bill) Miller of Ashland; one son, Marc (Bobbi) Robbins of Knoxville, TN; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rex is preceded in death by one brother, Dick Robbins in 2013. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 22, at 2:00 pm in the First Presbyterian Church, 320 West Church Street, Ashland, OH with Rev. Michael Parker officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call Monday April 21, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 7:oo pm in the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home with Masonic Services at 6:45 pm.
