AUGUSTA, Ill. -- Robert L. "Bob" Hamilton, 83, of Augusta, died at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday (April 15, 2014) in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis.
He was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Augusta, a son of Grey and Mildred Phillips Hamilton. He first married Marjorie Higbee on Dec. 22, 1957, in Ferris. He later married Carolyn Decker Holmes on June 25, 1977, in Augusta. She survives in Augusta.
Bob was a 1949 graduate of Augusta High School and attended Gem City Business College in Quincy, Western Illinois University in Macomb and Banking School in Madison, Wis. He worked in several capacities in the banking business with the State Bank of Augusta for 37 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen; a past master and 50-year member of Denver Lodge 464 AF&AM; worthy patron of the former Augusta Order of Eastern Star; a member of the Augusta VFW and Tri-County Country Club; and served as treasurer of the Augusta Woodlawn Cemetery Association for 38 years. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He served his country in the Korean War with the United States Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Eric (Suzanne) Hamilton, of Carthage; two daughters, Becky Goodman of Dallas and Susan (Curtis) Eddington of Augusta; three stepchildren, Alan (Nancy) Holmes of Sebring, Fla., Ray (Janice) Holmes of Clayton and Jill (Ray) Steiger of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Colton and Brodie Eddington, Thomas Hamilton and Maggie Goodman; seven step-grandchildren, Alana Murphy, Ross Holmes, Grant, Brock and Sadie Steiger, Nicole Huppe and Jacquelyn Haschemeyer; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Don Hamilton; a sister, Patricia (Robert) Lantz; and an aunt, Jean Depoy.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Jan Holmes.
SERVICES: Cremation will be accorded. As per Bob's wishes, there will be a celebration of life at a later date in Augusta.
VISITATION: A memorial visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Hamilton Funeral Home, Augusta.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, Woodlawn Cemetery Association or Living Faith United Methodist Church.
ARRANGEMENTS: Hamilton Funeral Home, Augusta.
