Leroy Thorsgard was born to Syver and Mabel (Hegge) Thorsgard. He was born and raised on the Tepee Butte Township in Hettinger County.
He married Elaine Doe in 1945. To this union five children were born; Kenneth, Judy, Fae, Tim and Craig.
In 1996 Leroy married Louise Pedersen, and moved to Hettinger.
He is survived by his wife, Louise, of Hettinger; his daughter, Judy, son-in-law, Tom Frandsen, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Thorsgard.
He and Louise chose to attend Bucyrus Church, because his father had helped build it.


Memorial Service for LeRoy Thorsgard, 88, of Hettinger, ND will be Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes in Hettinger, ND. Rev. Stephanie Swanson will officiate.

LeRoy Stanley Thorsgard was born June 25, 1924 to Syver and Mabel (Hegge) Thorsgard. He was born and raised on the Tepee Butte homestead in North Dakota. LeRoy attended the Wagendorf School in his younger years.

He married Elaine Doe in 1945 and they made their home on the family farm. To this union five children were born, Kenneth, Judy, Fae, Tim and Craig. His wife Elaine passed away in 1978 and he continued to farm with his son Craig.

In 1996 LeRoy married Louise Pederson and he moved into Hettinger. LeRoy served on the rural Church Board, was later a member of Bucyrus Lutheran Church and was active in the Sons of Norway. He loved to read the newspaper, discuss current events and watching baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins.

LeRoy passed away on Friday August 31, 2012 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.

He is survived by his wife, Louise, of Hettinger; his daugher, Judy (Glenn) Martin, CO; son-in-law, Tom Frandsen, AZ; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Thorsgard Groves, TX; five grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer) Frandsen, AZ, Jennifer (Eddie) Kesner, AZ, Brad (Marcel) Martin, CO, Janice (Darnell) Mills, CO and Tamara (Kason) Menges, TX; eight great grandchildre; his sister, Marie Hagen, WI and several nephews and nieces, including Sonja Haugen, who took special interest in her uncle. LeRoy is also survived by his step-children, Brenda Fink, SD and Lyla Pederson, SD.
