Born in New York the third son of Eli and Lucinda Terry, Bradley's initial training was for that of a Harness Maker. By 1870 he was working as a merchant in Detroit, Michigan. Over the next several years he met and married, as her second husband, Lucy Anne (Wheeler) Barden, on September 23, 1874 in Owosso, Shiawassee, Michigan. They soon moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he was co-proprietor of the Missouri Wagon Yard. In 1880, he, along with Lucy and her daughter, Lena (from her first marriage with Joseph A. Barden), moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he initially worked as a horseman. From 1883-1885, the family was found in Denver, Colorado where he co-owned a livery & boarding stable. Then in 1886, he and his family made their final move, returning to Fort Worth, where he spent the remainder of his life working as a veterinarian.
