Ethel Louise Dixon

Pace - Ethel Dixon, 99, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 leaving her beloved Pace community for her Heavenly Home. She was born in Lawrence County, TN on March 21, 1921, moved to Florida in 1936, and moved to Pace in 1948.

Ethel was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Pensacola on Olive Road. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, working during Vacation Church School, keeping the nursery, and providing flowers for the Sunday services.

Ethel began her career during World War II as an emergency teacher at Munson and Fidelis schools. She obtained her B.S. Degree in Education from Troy State Teachers College and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. In 1949, Ethel began teaching at S.S. Dixon Primary School, formerly Pace Elementary, where she taught for 43 years. Ethel was named Santa Rosa County's Teacher of The Year in 1978. After retiring from the school district, Ethel worked at Locklin Vocational School tutoring adult students.

Ethel was a very community-oriented woman. She was a charter member of the Pace Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, a member of the Pace-Pea Ridge Homemaker's Club, the Pace Civic Club, and a former member of Beta Sigma Phi. Ethel's professional memberships included Santa Rosa Retired Teachers Association, the National Education Association, and the Florida Teachers Association. In 2007 Ethel was awarded the Pioneer of the Year Award by the Pace Chamber of Commerce.

Ethel was preceded in death by: her husband, Samuel S Dixon; her parents, L. O. Peppers and Rosie Griffin; and sisters, Mabel Holland, Edith Golden, and Gladys Hawthorne. She is survived by: her sister, Nora Cook; nieces, Glenda Ward, Phyllis West, Stephanie Lynch, Kimberly Cook, Leigh Anne Borowski, and Felecia Ramsey; nephews, DeVann Cook and Jay Hawthorne; and numerous great-nieces and nephews as well as great-great-nieces and nephews. Ethel loved and took pride in all of the achievements of each and every one of them.

Pallbearers are DeVann Cook, Jay Hawthorne, Shawn Ward, Trey Lynch, Tyler Lynch, and Samuel Borowski. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Lynch, Ted Borowski, Phil Hahn, and Jason Monforton. Due to COVID, the family will hold a private service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ethel Dixon Children In Need Fund at S.S. Dixon Primary School, 4560 Pace Patriot Blvd, Pace FL 32571, or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank The Canopy Memory Care Unit for the care and love given to Ethel during her time there.
