BARBARA JEAN BETHUNE MOXLEY, age 83, a resident of Charleston, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born September 24, 1930, in Sikeston, Missouri, to the late Charles R. and Hazel Weakley Bethune Sr. A graduate of Sikeston High School, she had lived in Mississippi County most of her life where she was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church and attended the Susannah Wesley Sunday School class, and was active in several card clubs.

On May 8, 1949, she married Byron S. Moxley, who preceded her in death on September 27, 2004.

Surviving are one son and daughter in law, Charles and Celeste Moxley of Charleston; two daughters and two sons in law, Linda and David Patton of Manchester, and Sally and Max Michael of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Sarah Michael (Bruce) Dovin of Jackson, Shelby Michael (Rick) Alexander of Fayette, Robert (Katie) Michael of Cape Girardeau, Greg (Carly) Patton of High Ridge, Jeff (Christy) Patton of Manchester, Elizabeth Anne Moxley of Charlottesville, VA, and Stephen J. Moxley of Columbia; and 10 great grandchildren, Catie Dovin, Camille Dovin, Virginia Claire Alexander, Abigail Michael, Lillian Michael, Charles Alexander, Raegan Patton, Delaney Patton, Pierce Patton, and Keira Patton.

One brother, Charles R. Bethune Jr., preceded her in death.

Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. until the Funeral Hour at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston. Rev. David Collum, pastor of the Charleston United Methodist Church, and Rev. Roger Jespersen, of Cape Girardeau, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
