Vern was born in DuBois, the son of Claude Ephriam Hetrick and "Belle" Lucretia Belle Burkett (married January 10, 1914 in Sandy Twp., Clearfield Co., PA). He was married twice:
1. to June Nulf on November 2, 1946 in the Moorhead Methodist parsonage in Brockway, Jefferson Co., PA. They divorced.
2. to Verda (Richards) Pettiti.
Vern lived in RD 1 Brockport, Elk Co., PA. He died in the Maple Avenue Hospital in DuBois.
