Evelyn Franklin, 97, of Bridgeport, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport. Her funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport with Pastor Ray Cook officiating. Interment will follow at the Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm until 7pm at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Bridgeport. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Evelyn's memory be made in care of the church.
Evelyn was born May 25, 1916 in Oberlin, KS to Kersey and Lizzie (Tubbs) Vickers. She received her early education in Decatur County, KS. She moved with her parents to Bridgeport in 1933 where she completed her high school education. She married Howard Franklin on July 14, 1935 at Hot Springs, SD. They were engaged in farming in the Bridgeport area until retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. She was one of the original members of the Happy Hour Extension Club and loved to play cards.
She is survived by her three daughters Sharon (Harry) Lockhart of Denver, CO, Judy Lundy of Des Moines, IA, and Kathy (Larry) Arehart of Lincoln, NE; 8 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents, step father Byron Penny, husband, an infant brother and sister, son in law Vic Lundy, great granddaughter Kara, and sister Roma Vineyard preceded her in death.
