U.S. Congressman. Immigrating to the United States in 1881, he became the owner of a tavern in New York City and was later president of the Manhattan's Central Association of Liquor Dealers. In 1915, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fourth Congress, serving until 1917. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his former business pursuits. He died as the result of exposure to anthrax contracted from his shaving brush at age 58.
