Mr. Byrd was retired from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He attended South Lenoir Church of God. He was also a United States World War II Army Veteran as a Machine Gunner and fought at the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include one son, Jerry F. Byrd and wife Ann of Gamewell; one daughter, Diane Windham of Hickory; one brother, Glen Byrd of Lenoir; one sister, Mary Harrison and husband C.L. of Lee Summitt, Missouri; Cora Lee's daughters, Doris Wallace and husband Glen of Lenoir, Joyce Price and husband Larry of Collettsville and Lois Chapman of Whitnel; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11: a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Sam Abee and Glen Wallace.
