LANCASTER, S.C. - Vernice T. Adkins Sr., passed away on Dec. 25, 2008, in Lancaster. He was 87. Mr. Adkins was born and raised in Okeechobee, Fla., by his late parents, Barney and Minnie Adkins. He was a Beautician by trade owning several beauty salons during his career. Mr. Adkins had a great love of fresh and saltwater fishing and he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. who proudly served his country during World War II. Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife, Elaine M. Adkins of Lancaster, S.C.; four sons, Charron Adkins of Weston, Fla., Vernon Adkins of Ocala, Fla., Frankie Adkins of Wasilla, Alaska, Edward Adkins of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Donna Adkins, Seattle, Wash. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and stepchildren. Mr. Adkins is predeceased by his two sons, Vernice T. Adkins Jr. and David Adkins. There will be a graveside memorial service and committal of ashes at the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, 11 a.m. Friends may sign the guestbook at www.bassokeechobeefh.com.
