Serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to Laura Jean's murder and lead police to where he had disposed of her body. He was sentenced to death for another murder in Texas, but his sentence was commuted to life in prison in 2000 and he died shortly thereafter. Lucas was never charged in connection with Laura Jean's murder.
Laura Jean was a high school freshman at John H. Reagan Sr. High in the Heights at the time of her murder, and belonged to the girl's ROTC drill team - The Reagan Riflettes.
