ABINGDON, Va. Albert Lee Kite, 89, a well-known resident of Washington County, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on April 22, 1924, the son of the late George Blaine Kite and Anna Smith Kite, and was preceded in death by his wife June Kite on March 3, 2014. He was also preceded in death by one son, Jody Kite; a sister-In-law, Thelma C. Kite; and his brother, George Kite. Dusty had worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Alyson Abell of Abingdon, Virginia; a special grandson, Zeke Kite; a very special niece, Ann Lee and husband, Don of Abingdon, Virginia; two special friends, Fred Wilson, and Millard Cunningham; and his companion and pet named Pouche. A special thank you to Wellmont Hospice and to Paula Reynolds for the care that was given to Dusty. Graveside services for Dusty Kite will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Steve Pollard officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Highlands Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard and the flag presented to his grandson, Zeke Kite. The family will receive friends at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday evening, April 17, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. with a masonic service conducted 6 p.m. with visitation to follow. Active pallbearers will be Don Lee, David Vanhoose, Zeke Kite, Michael Pennington, Johnny Crigger and Larry Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Wilson and Millard Cunningham. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Washington County Animal Defense League, P.O. Box 2099, Abingdon, VA 24212 in Memory of Dusty Kite.
