HERSCHEL HARP THURMOND, 90, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Colton Villa Nursing Center. Born Sept. 16, 1909, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Howard C. and A. Blanche Harp Thurmond. His wife, Margaret E. Souders Thurmond, died March 1, 1974.
He was employed by Potomac Edison Co. for 34 years; and by M.P. Moller. He was a volunteer with Community Rescue Service and Washington County Hospital Auxiliary.
He is survived by a son, Michael Lee Thurmond of Hagerstown; a brother, Markwood L. Thurmond of Hagerstown; a niece, and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Marlin Thurmond.
Burial was at the convenience of the family; arrangements were by the Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
