Dan was employed with Consumers Energy for 25 years, he retired in 2003. If belly laughs were gold, Dan single handedly made the world a richer place. On August 13, 1976 Dan married the love of his life, Janis (Charters-Lowell) Nowak, who survives him.
Also surviving are two sons, Mitchell Nowak, of Kawkawlin and Jason (Amy) Lowell of Bay City. He has three beautiful granddaughters Samantha, Bailley and Taya Lowell, they are his pride and joy. Dan is also survived by two brothers David (Janet) Nowak of Auburn and Andy Nowak of Caseville, a sister Mary Coulliard of Plymouth, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful companion Boots.
Dan was an award winning writer/author and enjoyed making wine. His latest endeavor with the ‘Three Amigos', his best friends AKA ‘Hairy' (Dennis Rosenblum) and ‘the Professor' (Pat Williams) was the Unsung Bars of Bay City (Blog) barsofbaycity.blogspot.com. He was a perch-chaser, versatile musician, and one of the funniest story tellers around. Dan loved to help out in the community. He volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club, Kirtland's Warbler Festival, Michigan Workforce development board, Red Cross, Junior Achievement, Michigan Blood, Literacy Council, nose flute composer, Sunrise Side Coalition, Chairman Club Employees for better government and where ever he was needed.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10 am from St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Jerzy Dobosz with military funeral honors under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans with cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Rivertown Funeral Chapel on Monday from 2 to 8 pm with a Prayer Vigil at 7 pm. On Tuesday Daniel will lie in state at the church from 9 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the family's wishes.
