On Palm Sunday, April 11, 1965, Northern Indiana was hit by a devastating outbreak of tornadoes, many in the F4 and F5 Fujita category. Hardest hit was the unincorporated town of Dunlap. located between Elkhart and Goshen on US 33 in Elkhart County. The Midway Trailer Park and the Sunnyside addition were especially devastated. The tornado which tore up Sunnyside has been forever immortalized by Elkhart Truth photographer Paul Huffman. He was returning from Goshen with his family when the tornadoes hit and being the good shooter he was, had his camera with him. He took the picture of the famous "Twin Tornado" . The Forsythe residence was ruined in the tornado and son Steve was killed. The family never rebuilt on the lot and over time, it has become a park with a small memorial and a board listing the names of the Elkhart County fatalities of that day.
