Gabriela "Chela" Gonzalez, 69, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago, IL.

She was born March 24, 1945 in Miguel Negrete, Dgo, Mexico, the daughter of Perfecto and Alberta (Parra) Martinez.

Chela lived in Silver City, New Mexico where she waitressed at Nancy's Silver Café for 31 years. She took great pride working at the Silver Café and loved her regular customers. Chela enjoyed gardening in her free time. When she wasn't tending to her yard; you could find her at garage sales, finding hidden treasures for family and friends. All grandmothers spoil their children, but Chela took it to a whole new level with her grandkids. A generous soul, Chela loved to give and expected nothing in return. A strong woman, she was often turned to for advice. Usually, Chela's kindness didn't stop with an encouraging word- on multiple occasions she was known to help others get back on their feet. Chela's work, hobbies, and good deeds can't compare to the love she had for her two children, Ruby and Eric. Ruby was her pride, and Eric her joy. Chela raised her children as a single mom. She passed on her entertaining sense of humor, selflessness, and hard work ethic to them. They were the motivating force behind everything she did.
