Janet was born, 27 July 1886 in Ripley County, Indiana, the 12th of 13 children born to George and Sarah Robbins Graham. Her name, as given by father George in his pension materials, was Maggie J., the middle initial standing for Jeanette. However, the shortened version, Janet, was used so frequently that it became her official name.

In as much as her brothers and sisters attended school, most going through six or seven grades, Janet probably did the same. In 1899 the Graham family moved to the town of Rushville, Rush County, Indiana, and a few years later to Indianapolis.

As a young girl, Janet became interested in singing, preferring operatic music. She studied in Europe and was urged to go professional, but her marriage to fiance Irving Reuter, an Indianapolis boy, took precedence. They were united in that city on the 24th of February, 1909.

Janet and Irving lived in Indianapolis until he took a job with Remy Electric Company in Anderson, Indiana. It was while they were living in Anderson that they had their only child, Wilma. She was born in 1912 and lived but eleven years, dying of influenza in 1923.

In 1925 Irving was appointed General Manager of the Olds Motor Car Company and the couple, saddened my the death of their daughter, moved close to Lansing, Michigan. In 1927 they started building a 10,000 square feet mansion in Eaton County, called Medovue.

Irving had many positions within General Motors including being the Vice President from 1929 to 1933. While working for General Motors the U.S. was in the midst of the depression so it was no wonder that Irving was ready to retire from the pressure of the automobile industry.

Retirement was a good time for Janet and Irving in as much as both were fairly young at the time, 47 and 48, respectively. Due to early purchases of G.M. stock they were financially well off and willing to support a variety of charities. They sold their mansion, Medovue, on 23 May 1936. They had homes in Miami Beach, Florida and Asheville, North Carolina.

Janet enjoyed outdoor activities such as golf and horseback riding. When younger her golf scores were in the 80's.

Following Irving's death in 1972, Janet continued to live on Vanderbilt Rd, Asheville, North Carolina and spent the winters at their home in Palm Beach, Florida. In the late 1970's she began to spend all of her time in Florida. At the time of her death she was living at 315 S. Lake Drive in Palm Beach and because of her failing health required constant care.
