Harriet Elsie Stuart, originally of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was 85 years old and had resided the greater part of her last year at Hermitage House in Castle Hayne.

Mrs. Stuart was born December 21, 1928 in New Milford, Connecticut; the daughter of the late Samuel and Jessie Woodin Goodsell. She was formerly a member of First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes. She loved knitting, gardening, watching golf, and bowling, once bowling a perfect 300 game. During her senior years while still living at home, Mrs. Stuart loved to go on long scenic drives with her husband Patrick or other close family members. She was preceded in death by her first husband Foster Burritt Eaton, who was a sergeant in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific theater; her second husband Patrick Louis Stuart, who had served in the US Marine Corps; and eight brothers and sisters.

Surviving is her son Randy and wife Jacqueline of Southport; three daughters, Elsie Webster and husband Charles of Dover Plains, NY; Diane M. Kieley and husband Kenneth of Plymouth, NH; and Jeanette Watts of Boiling Spring Lakes; eight grandchildren -- Donna Watts, Erica Evans, Sam Watts, Mary Ann Dorschmidt, Justin Webster, Joshua Webster, Kenneth Kieley, Jr., and Denise Van Zandt -- and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 19, 2014 in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend John Eagles officiating. Burial will follow at Cape Fear Memorial Park (located on highway 211 in Brunswick County).

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Cause of Death: Alzheimer's, (suspected) polypharmacy; complicated by pneumonia leading to cardiac arrest.

The family of Mrs. Stuart would especially like to thank Rev. John Eagles, who on very short notice made himself available both as friend and servant of Jesus Christ to minister to us during our time of need; and Mrs. Becky Schultheis for filling in as much-needed respite caretaker, providing meals and companionship for Mom when her son was unavoidably out-of-town.
