Funeral services for Lewis L. Abbey, 86, who died in the Hawarden hospital Monday following a brief illness, were held at Dow Funeral Chapel Wednesday with Rev. Herbert Young officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery.
Casket bearers were Earl Slife, Sr., Arthur Swanson, George Hirschman, Dr. R.E. Thompson, L.R. Carsten, and John Schmidt.
Mrs. Don Hummel was organist and Mrs. Rod Wilbeck sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset."
Mr. Abbey was born November 19, 1882. He married Jane Montgomery December 30, 1903, in Coggen. The couple farmed near Coggen until they moved to Hawarden in 1944.
He is survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Marlys Schmidt of Hawarden, and two great grandchildren.
