Henry Clay Tibbils was born February 19, 1842 in Sennett, Cayuga County, New York to Harvey William Tibbils and Mary Abbey. In 1869 he was a vocal teacher as well as a composer. In 1878 he wrote the book: " The Amethyst: A collection of New Music for Singing Classes, Conventions, Choirs, etc., Published by Benham & Stedman. He married Mary Elizabeth Barkshire on 13 April 1871 in Lincoln,Logan County, Illinois. Henry Clay died young (age 50) in Imperial, Chase County, Nebraska. His burial location is unknown although his granddaughter, Kathryn Pentzer Cross has written in a letter to her cousin, James Coleman, that she visited her grandfather's grave as a child and that he is buried with the "Bird" family in Imperial, Chase County, Nebraska.
