The Kansas City Star - Oct 13, 1907:
After working seven days on the Malott murder mystery, the detectives have found no clue. Isaac Malott, 78 years old, and his son, Thomas, left their grocery store on South Eighteenth Street, west side, at 9 o'clock Saturday night, a week ago, to go to their home, less than a block away. They were attacked from behind by two men, beaten into unconsciousness and robbed. From the son, the highwaymen took $470. A gold watch v.. taken from the father. Isaac Malott died a few hours after the attack. Thomas Malott, the son, has recovered sufficiently to tell of his experience.
"I believe the robbers are men I know, he said yesterday afternoon. I am sure my father recognized them. That is the reason they pummelled him until they thought he was dead. The robbers knew exactly in which pockets I carried my money. They examined no other pocket and disturbed nothing else."
A reward of $50 has been offered for the arrest of the robbers.
