Bill was born in Jordan, Montana on May 26, 1926. The first of six children to Harley and Elizabeth (Heiss) Spracklin.
Bill joined the United States Navy on September 13, 1944 serving in the South Pacific as an EM3c. He was honorably discharged on June 12, 1946. Upon his discharge he returned to Jordan where he married Rita Flegel on December 12, 1946. They resided in Jordan until he went to work for Peter Kiewit Construction. They moved frequently following the work. Settling in Glendive in 1960 he went to work for the State Highway Department as a Heavy Duty mechanic and welder. He retired in 1978.
He was a lifelong Democrat and strongly believed in Unions. Dad was a self taught man and usually held down two jobs. We often said if you gave him a hammer and some bailing wire he could fix, fabricate or modify anything. At one time he put an MG back together that was taken completely apart and given to him in cardboard boxes. He could tell what was wrong with a car just by listening to it run. Consequently you never had the radio on when he was in the car with you. He was a man of his word and often worked with just a handshake. He never asked anyone to do something he wasn't willing or able to do himself.
Bill was willing to fix anything for anyone even strangers broke down on the road. He loved animals and the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and building things.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Robert and Donald.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Wanda Black (friend Robbie) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Noreen (Larry "Ed") Turnquist of Glendive, Dale (Janet) Spracklin of Sidney, Montana, and Sharon (Keith) Weiss of Glendive; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters.
