Ernie served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division based in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Ernie volunteered and served two tours of duty in Vietnam with high level security clearance. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Campaign Stars, and 3 Overseas Service Bars. He was a diesel mechanic and chauffered around a colonel. He also managed the NCO Club there in Saigon.
Ernie became addicted to herion from serving in Vietnam. Unbeknownst to most in his family, he quit cold turkey upon his return stateside. He was a lifelong functioning alcoholic and smoked marijuana and cigarettes.
Ernie was very artistic and could draw anything. He was gifted musically and could play any instrument by ear. He played 2nd chair trumpet in high school and also loved the guitar.
He went to community college for years and was very close to graduating. He was a draftsman and most of his career was spent drafting for several companies.
In his golden years, he reunited with his college sweetheart, Janet and they married. Just one short year after their honeymoon, he had a series of strokes and became an invalid, and was wheelchair bound. His sweetheart, Janet took excellent care of him during his remaining years.
He was married five times and has a Special Needs son with Wife #3 and a daughter with Wife #4.
He was a jokester too and loved to laugh. He is truly missed by many, especially by his son, daughter, sister and sweetheart. He was a brunette with hazel eyes. He was between 5'11" - 6'0".
He was also a Tennessee Colonel, an honorary title conferred by the state of Tennessee.
He died from Congestive Heart Failure.
