Johnnie W. Buchanan, 77, of Kingsport, Sullivan County, TN entered eternal rest at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Born in Scott County, VA on April 30, 1931, a son of the late Campbell and Elizabeth Fields Buchanan Stokes, he has resided in this area most of his life. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Mullins Buchanan, his step father, J. D. Stokes and an infant brother. Mr. Buchanan retired from Kingsport Foundry in 1993, following 33 years of service. He attended Kingsport Community Church of God. Mr. Buchanan was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, papaw, brother and friend who would do anything for anyone. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Doris G. Buchanan of the home; one daughter, Glenna D. Begley and husband Frank of Kingsport, TN; one son, Michael P. Buchanan of Kingsport, TN; three grandchildren, very special grand- daughter, Sarah Collins Pearman and husband, Daniel, Brandy B. Spivey and husband Brent of Gate City, VA, and Dixie B. Qualls and husband Shannon of Duffield, VA; four great-grandchildren, Brooke and Brevan Spivey and Alex and Hollie Qualls; two sisters, Margaret Stokes of Gate City, VA, and Evelyne Stokes of Lawrenceburg, TN; one brother, J. D. Stokes, Jr. and wife Phillis of Gate City, VA; mother-in-law, Violet E. Freeman; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Homebased Primary Care, Gary, Terry, Salena and Carrie, the Mountain Home VAMC, caregivers, Joyce Bryan and Connie Glover, Adventa Hospice, Linda, Annette, Doreen and Sandra. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008, at East Lawn Funeral Home and at other hours at the residence. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel with Pastor Ron Lowe and Pastor Bryan Moore officiating. Special music will be provided by Daniel and Sarah Pearman and Mark Stayton. Burial will follow graveside services at 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008, in East Lawn Memorial Park's Garden of Gethsemane. Pallbearers will be members of the Seekers Sunday School Class. Honorary pallbearer will be Aenos Whitmer. Those attending the committal services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:45 a.m. Monday and then proceed to the cemetery.
