Funeral services for George "Bud" Graves Jr., 83, of Gun Barrel City, were held March 7, 2014, at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points with Wayne Pitchford officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Cemetery in Seagoville.

Graves was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Dallas, to Pearl Folly (Smith) and George Graves Sr., and died March 5, 2014, in Kaufman.

After graduating Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 when he was 18 years old. He attended boot camp in San Diego, Calif., before being sent to Japan in 1950.
During the Korean Conflict, he performed electronics maintenance work on amphibious and carrier aircraft at Iwakuni and Atsugi Naval Air Stations in Japan.

He attended the University of Texas in Austin and Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1957. He worked part time while attending college.

He worked in accounting and finance for private industry, the federal government and was self-employed, retiring after 30 years of service.
After retiring he spent time reading, traveling and attending old west conventions.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sisters, five nephews, and one niece.
