Joseph George Benyshek, son of Stephan and Mary Plevka Benyshek, was born August 27, 1896 on a farm near Cuba and died September 2, 1979 at Belleville at the age of 83 years and 5 days.
He attended the Beebe Grade School and the Kansas State Agricultural College. In August of 1918 he enlisted in the United States Army where he attained the rank of corporal before his discharge in June of 1919.
He was married to Mary Kopsa on April 5, 1922 at Belleville. To this union three daughters were born. She died in 1942. On May 14, 1946 he was married to Minnie Schriever at Mandon, N. Dak.
He worked as a carpenter with the Armour Star Company and spent his later life on a farm near Cuba.
He was a chapter member of the William Fleming Post No. 345, American Legion, and received his 60 year membership pin in 1978.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie; his daughter: Mrs. Harvey (Marvel) Skucius, Belleville, Mrs. Frank (Alice) Wiruth, Cuba, Mrs. Don (Jo Anne) Baxa Salt Lake City, Utah; two brothers. Charles of Belleville, Edd of Cuba; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held September 4 at the United Presbyterian Church in Cuba, conducted by the Rev. Tom Ballard. Burial was in the Kopsa Cemetery.
