William Grady Anderson, 86, of the Liberty Community, Murphy, died Friday, April 11, 2014, in a Copperhill, TN, hospital. He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. Grady received a Bachelor's Degree from Western Carolina University, and a Master's degree from Vanderbilt University. He taught for 46 years at Hiwassee Dam High School. Grady lived a life of honesty and integrity and taught the same to his students. He was influential to many people of the Hiwassee Dam Community. Grady was also a farmer and grew beef cattle and raised chickens for the purpose of selling hatching eggs. Grady was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church. He served on the board of directors as chairman of Tri-State Electric Membership Corporation, and was a past board member of Tri-County Community College.

He was the son of the late Walter N. and Elsie C. Mason Anderson. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Brady William Singleton, a brother, James Marvin Anderson, and a sister, Virginia Dare Blankenship.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou Raper Anderson; and a daughter, Shirley Singleton and husband, Ron of Ducktown, TN.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2014, in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with Rev. Calvin Murphy officiating. Interment will be in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
