Glenn W. Kester, 94, passed Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Prairie Hills, Independence. Services: Monday, April 14, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. The family will greet friends Sunday, April 13, at the funeral home. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker, with military honors.

Survivors include his children, William (Julie) Kester of Walker, Linda (Craig) Eastin of Urbana, Judy (Tracy) Lahue of Walker, Cynthia (Carl) Malecha of Fairbault, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Veronica Kester, Jeanette Kester, Doris Kester Cole and Ellia Kester; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane; grandson, Matthew Swanson; and his brothers, Francis, Louis (Venita), Darrell, Gene, Richard and Allen; and sister, Edna (Bob) Wilson.

Glenn was born February 13, 1920, the son of Alfred and Clara (Bading) Kester, on the family farm near Coggon, Iowa. He attended school in Coggon. Glenn served his country for two years during World War II, spending six months at CEBU in the Philippines operating a crane on the docks. He then was transferred to the 20th Air Force in Guam where he was promoted to Corporal.

On June 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jane Neiderhiser. Glenn was a lifelong resident and farmer of Buchanan, Benton and Linn Counties.

Glenn was a member of the Walker American Legion and the Farm Bureau where he helped many times with the membership drives for several years during the 70's. He also was a member of the Benton County Fair Board in Vinton and the Benton County Extension Council from 1967-1970. Glenn enjoyed fishing, playing 500 and gardening after his retirement.
