TUSCALOOSA Lester Joseph Ferguson Jr., age 78, died Sept. 26, 2011. Services will be 3:30 p.m. today, Sept. 27, 2011, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Hayes Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mr. Ferguson was born October 7, 1932, in Tampa, Florida, and was a long time resident of Tuscaloosa. He was retired from Dairy Fresh Corp. He was a former member of Hopewell Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.
Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Joseph Ferguson and Clara Bell Worrell Ferguson; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Bob Mackey; grandson, Richard Scott Mackey; stepson, Clyde Colburn Jr.; and sister, Thelma Myrle Ferguson Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jean Ferguson; daughters, Cherie Ferguson Rowell (Kenny) of Biloxi, Miss., Honey Carraway (Bill) of Moulton, Ala., and Suzanne Sterling of Coaling; grandchildren, Robyn Mackey of Calera, Ala., Katherine Lynn Carraway and Benjamin Carraway of Moulton, and Danielle Sterling, Elizabeth Sterling, and Jimmie Sterling Jr., all of Coaling; great-granddaughter, Angel Mathis of Coaling; sister, Deryl Barnhill; nieces and a nephew; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Price, Samuel Barnhill, Craig Strickland, Ray Hampton, Jimmy Holliman, and Nathan Walker.
